Police Say Man Threatened Woman With Knife, Assaulted Police Officer

Wilmington Police have arrested and charged a 29-year-old man who threatened a woman and later assaulted a police officer, according to police.

Officials said on March 30, 2019, at approximately 7:16 p.m., police were called to the 1400 block of North Dupont Street after a woman reported being threatened with a pocket knife by a 29-year-old man.

A patrol unit in the area of 9th and Adams Streets later located the suspect, Darnell Gibson, and he was taken into custody without incident.

While he was being placed into a patrol vehicle for transport, Gibson kicked the rear passenger door, striking a police officer and causing a minor injury to the officer’s forearm, police said.

Gibson has been charged with the following:

Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony
Assault (Second Degree)
Aggravated Menacing
Offensive Touching of a Law Enforcement Officer
Terroristic Threatening
Resisting Arrest

Gibson was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $29,500 secured bail.
