Reports: Firefighters Evacuate House During Hockessin Fire, Firefighter Injured

Hockessin – Just before 7:45 Friday morning, firefighters from the Hockessin Fire Company, along with surrounding companies responded to a home in the 1700 block of Brackenville Road for reports a house fire.

Upon arrival, crews reported smoke showing from a two-story single family home. Command then ordered Fire Police to close Brackenville Road.

fire showing and immediately requested a hose to the rear of the home.

Initially, Command ordered an offensive attack on the fire and had crews working in the interior of the home. Several minutes later crews reported fire through the floor and an evacuation of the home was ordered.

As crews worked to get the fire under control they reported extreme hoarding conditions in the home. They later reported that the bulk of the fire in the basement was knocked down.

Crews later returned to the interior of the home and at around 8:50 Command reported that the fire was under control with crews working.

One firefighter suffered minor injuries and was transported to Christiana Hosptial via ambulance crews from the Christiana Fire Company. The firefighter is currently listed in stable condition.

Shortly after the fire was brought under control a second patient was reportedly transported to the hospital as well.
