New Castle– Officials are investigating a fatal crash that occurred last evening involving a motorcycle.
Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Melissa Jaffe said the Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating an incident that occurred on May 18, 2019, at approximately 8:47 p.m., when a 2005 Acura MDX was traveling southbound on S. Dupont Highway (US RT 13) and entered into a crossover just north of Federal School Lane and came to a stop. The operator of the Acura proceeded to make the U-turn and entered into the left lane of US RT 13 northbound. A 2004 Yamaha V6A was traveling northbound on US RT 13 in the left lane of travel. The Acura entered into the path of the Yamaha and collided with same. The operator of the Yamaha was ejected onto the roadway following the collision.
The operator of the Acura, a 78-year-old female from Wilmington was properly restrained and not injured.
The operator of the Yamaha, a 30-year-old male from Newark was transported to the Christiana Hospital where he was pronounced deceased. His name is being withheld pending the notification of next of kin.
Troopers said high speed is being considered a factor on his behalf. US RT 13 northbound was closed at Federal School Lane for approximately 3 hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
The Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing their investigation into this incident.

New Castle- The Delaware State Police are currently on scene of a fatal motor vehicle crash that occurred at approximately 8:47 p.m., May 18, 2019, on S. Dupont Highway in the area of Firewood Lane, according to Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Melissa Jaffe.
Jaffe said S. Dupont Highway, northbound lanes, between Firewood Lane and Federal School Lane is closed at this time.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area and seek alternate routes of travel.
The investigation is in the very early stages with further details being released as they become available.
