Thousands Without Power After Storms Roll Through New Castle County

Another round of severe weather rolled through New Castle County this evening.

Around 7:00 the storm brought high winds and heavy rain causing several trees to fall on homes and block roads.

Due to severe lightning and wind in the area, we’ve experienced large outages in our service area. Initially, these outages impacted more than 16,000 customers but we were able to quickly reduce those outages to a little more than 8,000 customers still without power, said Delmarva spokesman Timothy Stokes.

Stokes said at this time, we are fully staffed, with crews responding to these outages and working to restore service to customers as safely and quickly as possible. A majority of the outages we are seeing are within our New Castle County service area. We anticipate having most customers fully restored sometime this evening.

We can contribute our quick response to these outages, as well as the quick reduction in the number of outages we are seeing, to our continued investments into the energy grid with new technology and equipment, along with the many tasks our crews complete to prepare for the summer season, including system work, testing, and drills.
