Wilmington Police have arrested a 15-year-old who was found with a loaded handgun and resisted arrest.
On May 24 at approximately 10:50 p.m., members of the Safe Streets Task Force were in the 700 block of South Van Buren Street when they observed a suspicious 15-year-old male who walked away as officers approached.
As police attempted to stop the juvenile, he reached for a 9mm semi-automatic handgun that was concealed in his waistband. Police were able to take him into custody without incident and recovered the firearm, which had an obliterated serial number. He also possessed eight cartridges of ammunition, police added.
The 15-year-old male has been charged with the following offenses:
Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited
Possession of a Firearm with an Obliterated Serial Number
Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon
Resisting Arrest
He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to the New Castle County Detention Center on $15,500 cash-only bail.
