Conowingo, MD – On Friday, July 5, 2019, at just after 5:30 PM, the Maryland State Police North East Barrack received a call for a crash involving two motorcycles and a passenger car in the 600 block of Conowingo Road.
Upon the arrival of Cecil County Emergency Services medics and state troopers, three patients were to be medevac transported; two to Christiana Hospital in Delaware, one to Shock Trauma in Baltimore and a fourth patient was to be taken by ambulance to Christiana Hospital. Two Maryland State Police Aviation medevacs were used along with a medevac helicopter from Delaware State Police.
A preliminary investigation by a Maryland State Police reconstructionist indicates that the two motorcycles, each with an operator and passenger, were traveling northbound on Conowingo Road when a southbound 2004 gold Buick sedan made contact with one of them, according to officials. The impact from the first contact caused that motorcycle to strike the other motorcycle. Both operators and their passengers were ejected from the motorcycles.
The Maryland State Highway Administration responded to assist with the over three (3) hour road closure between Merry Knoll Lane and Rock Springs Road. The identity of everyone involved is being withheld at this time pending notification to their families.

The fourth helicopter dispatched to the scene was recalled as the patient could not wait and had to be rushed by ground ambulance, according to reports from the scene.

Conowingo Maryland – Rescue crews from Maryland along With Delaware State Police Aviation’s Trooper 4 and Maryland State Police Aviation Trooper 1 and 6 are responding to the 600 block of Route 1 (Conowingo Road) for a double motorcycle crash.
Initial reports from the scene indicate that at least two patients are very seriously injured.
Arriving crews are telling the helo pilots that they will be utilized.
One patient has been transported to Shock Trauma in Baltimore via MSP – Trooper 1.
A second patient was flown to the Trauma Center at Christiana Hospital in Delaware.
A third patient is en route to the Trauma Center at Christiana Hospital in Delaware via ground ambulance. This patient could not wait for the fourth helo and had to be rushed by ground.
A fourth patient is being readied for a flight to the Trauma Center at Christiana Hospital in Delaware via MSP – Trooper 6. (We first reported that this patient was transported to Shock Trauma based on reports from the scene)
All four patients are seriously injured.
