Troopers Update Concord Pike Crash That Sent Three To Hospital

Wilmington – The Delaware State Police are currently investigating a crash which took place on Rt. 202 in front of the Concord Mall, early this afternoon that has sent two people to an area hospital with serious injuries, according to Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Michael Austin.

Austin said the initial investigation has determined that the crash occurred at approximately 1:06 p.m., Tuesday, July 9, 2019, on Rt. 202 (Concord Pike) at the intersection with the south exit of the Concord Mall.

A 2005 GMC stake body truck was northbound on Rt. 202 in the left lane and failed to stop at the red light at the intersection of the Concord Mall exit. A 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier was exiting the mall with a green light, attempting to proceed southbound on Rt. 202 when it was struck on its driver’s side by the GMC, said Austin.

The driver and one passenger in the Chevy were transported with serious, non-life threatening injuries. A third subject in the vehicle was uninjured.

The driver of the GMC was also not injured.

The investigation is in the early stages with further details being released as they become available.

Talleyville – At 1:04 this afternoon rescue crews from the Talleyville Fire Company, along with New Castle County Paramedics and Trooper 4 were dispatched to the Concord Mall at 410 Concord Mall for reports of a crash with three reported trapped.

Crews arrived to find the accident at the intersection near the mall and advised dispatch that there was positive entrapment and a total of three patients.

Trooper 4 arrived on scene, landing in the parking lot near the Sears. As crews work to free the driver medics and rescue personnel attended to two other patients

Crews later confirmed that the trapped driver and one of the passengers were being treated by medics and would be transported to an area hospital. The third patient, a child, was transported to A.I Dupont.

Correction: Our Earlier report indicated that the crash occurred in the parking lot of the mall. The call was dispatched to the Sears at Concord Mall, however, the crash occurred on Concord Pike.
