U.S. Marshals Task Force Takes Down Attempted Murder Suspect In New Castle

Wilmington Police have identified and arrested a 17-year-old juvenile in connection with a June 29 shooting incident.

On June 29 at approximately 6:18 p.m., police were dispatched to the unit block of Gordon Street, where they located a 29-year-old male gunshot victim who was admitted to the hospital in critical but stable condition.

Detective Douglas Rivell of the Criminal Investigations Division was assigned to the case. Through the course of his investigation, Detective Rivell developed a 17-year-old male as a suspect. Investigators executed search warrants on July 16 at two addresses but were unsuccessful in locating the suspect.

On July 23, members of the U.S. Marshals Task Force and Street Crimes Unit located the suspect in the area of Airport Road and Mowery Road in New Castle. The suspect attempted to evade police but was eventually taken into custody.

The 17-year-old has been charged with the following offenses:

  • Attempted Murder (First Degree)
  • Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony
  • Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited
  • Attempted Carjacking
  • Resisting Arrest

He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to the New Castle County Detention Center on $195,000 cash-only bail.
