Earlier today, Friday, October 25, 2019, the Good Samaritan that tried to help a woman after a Dover crash succumbed to his injuries.
Shortly after an accident on Tuesday night, 25-year-old Shawn Shannon entered the roadway on foot in an effort to aid those involved in the accident. During this time, a 2007 Jeep Cherokee operated by a 56-year-old man struck the Toyota Sienna that was still occupied by Deborah Young, said Hoffman. The impact caused the Toyota Sienna to cross the southbound lanes of S. DuPont Highway, the grass median, and the northbound lanes of S. DuPont Highway and come to rest along the east edge of the roadway. As a result of this collision, Shannon was also struck by one of the vehicles.
The Collision Reconstruction Unit is also seeking witnesses who were observed on camera that were at the scene when both of the accidents occurred. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Dover Police Department at (302)736-7111 and ask for Officer Brian Wood.
