Coast Guard searches for missing man near Kent Island, Maryland
The Coast Guard and Maryland authorities are searching by boat and helicopter for a 65-year-old Asian man whose boat was found aground on the southern end of Kent Island Thursday at around 3 p.m.
A person on Kent Island saw the man’s boat come slowly to shore and notified Coast Guard Station Annapolis that the boat was aground, running, with fishing lines out and freshly caught fish aboard, which prompted the search. A phone was later found aboard and the man’s truck and trailer were found at a marina in Deale.
Coast Guard Sector Maryland-National Capital Region Command Center watchstanders requested boat crews from the Maryland Natural Resources Police and Queen Anne’s County and a helicopter from the Maryland State Police, which joined Coast Guard crews aboard a boat from Station Annapolis and a helicopter from Air Station Atlantic City, New Jersey.
The marina reported that he departed at about 7:30 a.m. and a friend was in contact with the missing man at 12:46 p.m.
The Coast Guard Cutter Dolphin was expected to arrive early Friday morning to continue the search throughout the night.
Coast Guard officials ask that if anyone saw anything or has any information, that they contact the Sector Maryland-National Capital Region at 410-576-2525 or on VHF-FM Channel 16.
