The Delaware Office of the State Fire Marshal is investigating this morning’s fire in Middletown, Delaware that heavily damaged a home, according to Assistant State Fire Marshal Michael Chionchio.
Chionchio said the Volunteer Hose Company responded to the 500 block of East Creek Lane in the Dickerson Farm development shortly before 6:00 am for a 9-1-1 call indicating a house on fire.
Firefighters arrived on the scene with flames shooting out of the second floor. Mutual aid fire companies from surrounding districts, including New Castle County Paramedics, also responded to the scene and provided assistance.
State fire investigators are currently on the scene investigating the fire’s origin and cause. Three adults and one child have been displaced. The American Red Cross is providing emergency assistance. No smoke alarms were working in the home. Heavy fire damage was estimated at $50,000.
This fire remains under investigation.
Breaking Report
Middletown – Just before 6:00 this morning, Saturday, January 4, 2020, firefighters from the Volunteer Hose Company of Middletown along with surrounding companies responded to the 500 block of E Creek Land, in the Dickerson Farms development, for reports of a house fire.
While en route to the scene crews learned that a second-story bedroom was on fire. Once crews were on scene they began to attack the fire while simultaneously searching the home for occupants.
Minutes later crews reported that the four occupants, along with their dog had exited the home safely.
About thirty minutes after arriving on scene Middletown Command reported that the fire was under control. Crews remained on scene for about two and a half hours mopping up hotspots.
Command requested the American Red Cross to assist the family with temporary housing.
The Delaware State Fire Marshals Office responded to the scene and is investigating
