Noise Coming From The Delaware City Refinery Explained

Several of our readers have contacted us regarding a loud humming noise coming from the Delaware City Refinery.

The noise is being caused by steam venting and will continue through the weekend. Officials said that you may notice an increase in noise levels at the refinery as they implement a safety procedure that releases steam through a vent as part of a routine, although infrequent, process they use at the refinery. They plan to take all possible steps to minimize the noise levels.

State Senator Nicole Poor issued the following statement after receiving calls regarding the noise

“I have received a number of calls this weekend about loud sounds coming from the Delaware City Refinery.

Officials at the refinery assure me there is no reason for concern. The refinery is implementing a safety procedure that releases steam through a vent as part of a routine, although infrequent, process used by the facility.

The steam venting produces an increased noise level that should subside by tonight.
