The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office is currently investigating a Building fire in Newark, according to Delaware State Fire Marshal Chief Deputy Robert Fox.
Fox said the Christiana Fire Company was alerted to a fire in the 1200 block of North Barrett Lane in the Village of Barrett Run Apartments just after 7:00pm last night. Upon arrival of the Fire Department, they found heavy fire conditions coming from a multi-family apartment building.
The fire went to three alarms which brought several local Fire Departments to assist. The fire damaged 24 apartments displacing 52 residents. Residents have been relocated to area hotels, said Fox.
Deputies from the State Fire Marshal’s Office responded to the scene and are conducting an investigation into the origin and cause of the fire.
The fire caused approximately 1,000,000 dollars in damage to several apartment buildings.
Three Firefighters were injured and transported to Christianacare Emergency Department with minor injuries. Their status is unknown at this time.
Breaking Report
Just after 7;00 Monday night firefighters from New Castle County responded to 1212 N Barrett Run Drive, the Retreat at the Village of Barrett’s Run Apartments, for reports of an apartment fire.
When firefighters arrived on scene they reported heavy fire showing from the third floor. Shortly after crews arrived on scene Command struck a second alarm, which brought additional resources.
As crews search the apartment building for potential victims that reported that the primary search is negative. Noe patients were in the building.
Minutes after arrival, at 7:20, Command ordered a complete evacuation of the building. All firefighters were ordered out of the building. Just two minutes later Command struck a third alarm.
At last report, 9:00, firefighters remain on scene mopping up hotspots and helping residents grab items from their apartments.
