Delaware is scheduled to lift the restrictions on beach activity at 5 p.m. today, Friday, May 22.
Residents of the state and out-of-staters that have self quarantined for 14 days will be allowed to walk on the beach, sunbath, swim, and take part in other activities.
People will be encouraged to wear face masks while on the beach. Those that visit the boardwalk will be required to wear a mask.
Those that visit the beach will be asked to practice social distancing and proper hygiene. Governor John Carney announced on Wednesday that he will deploy beach ambassadors, “people that go up to people and tell them what the appropriate behavior is”, to ensure compliance.
“My message to Delawareans is, social distancing is working, but now is not the time to let up as we gradually reopen our economy. Let’s focus on staying safe, wearing masks, keeping distant from one another, no large gatherings,” Gov. John Carney says about reopening plans. pic.twitter.com/FZAGwOuLDc
