Stanton– The Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal motorcycle crash at the intersection of Limestone Road (SR 7) and Laura Drive that occurred on Saturday, at approximately 12:19 p.m., according to Public Information Officer, Senior Corporal Heather Pepper
Pepper said a 2008 Honda Accord operated by a 60-year-old female from Wilmington was stopped for the red traffic control signal in the left turn lane of northbound Limestone Road at Laura Drive. A 2005 Honda CBR Motorcycle operated by a 22-year-old male from Wilmington was traveling southbound on Limestone Road, approaching the intersection of Laura Drive. All vehicles in front of the motorcycle in the southbound lanes of Limestone Road stopped as the traffic light turned red. The traffic light turned to a green arrow on Laura Drive, and the Honda Accord entered the intersection to turn left.
The Honda motorcycle disregarded the red traffic light by traveling around the stopped traffic at a high rate of speed and entered the right turn lane to proceed through the intersection, said Pepper. As the Honda Accord was within the intersection, the motorcycle crashed into the passenger side of the Honda Accord. The motorcycle operator was ejected from the motorcycle onto the roadway.
Both operators were transported to a nearby hospital for their injuries. The operator of the motorcycle sustained life-threatening injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital. The operator of the Honda Accord was treated and released with non-life-threatening injuries.
Southbound Limestone Road in the area of Laura Drive was closed for approximately 3-hours for the crash investigation.
