Newark Police Arrest Man After Lengthy Drug Investigation

Newark Police have made an arrest after a lengthy drug investigation.

Beginning in May, 2020, Newark Police received tips about possible drug dealing activity at a residence on Donna Drive in Newark, according to Lt Andrew Rubin

Rubin said as a result of the tip members of the Newark Police Street Crimes Unit began the investigation.

Following a two month investigation, a search warrant was executed at the Donna Drive residence on July 7, 2020. During the search, officers located more than two and one-half pounds of marijuana packaged for sale, including edibles, along with prescription pills, according to Rubin. In addition, officers located ammunition for a shotgun.

The resident, Cornelius Jones Jr, 25, was taken into custody without incident. Jones is a person prohibited from possessing a firearm or ammunition, said rubin. This arrest was also a breach of a condition of release from a separate and unrelated case.

Jones was transported to Newark Police headquarters where he was charged with the following offenses:

Possession of Ammunition by a Person Prohibited
Possession with Intent to Deliver Marijuana
Possession of Marijuana in a Tier 1 Quantity
Possession of a Controlled Substance
Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
Breach of Release (2 counts)

Jones appeared before Justice of the Peace Court #2 by video and was ordered to be held in default of $23,400 cash bail. Jones was turned over to the custody of the Howard R Young Correctional Institution in Wilmington.
