Police: Man Caught Masturbating In Discount Store Chased Down In Smyrna, Released

Smyrna Police Patrol officers recently arrested a 19-year-old Clayton man for committing a lewd act inside of a local business, according to police.

Officials said on Wednesday, February 10, 2021, at approximately 5:30 pm, patrol officers responded to the Dollar General located in the 100 block of E Glenwood Avenue for a report of a male who had been masturbating in the aisle of the store, in view of patrons and employees.

Officers were provided with a description of the suspect and immediately began searching the area. An officer on patrol located the suspect walking on Main Street in the area of North Steet.
The suspect fled on foot upon seeing Police.

As officers continued their search they again located the suspect in the area of W Glenwood Avenue and School Lane. The suspect again fled on foot and was apprehended a short time later a few blocks away.

The suspect was identified as Herbert Hillman, 19 of Clayton. Further investigation revealed that Hillman was banned from the Dollar General for a similar previous incident in 2019, according to police. He was transported to police headquarters and charged with the following crimes:

Resisting Arrest, Lewdness, and Criminal Trespass 3rd.

Hillman was arraigned via video court in JP #2 and released on his own recognizance.
