Newark – Last Monday, Apr 5, 2021, patrol officers from the New Castle County Division of Police were dispatched to the unit block of Winterhaven Drive, in the community of Spring Crossing Apartments for the report of an in-progress burglary. When the officers arrived, they interviewed a 25-year-old woman.
Police said the victim reported that while exiting her bathroom, she saw that her window blinds were crumpled in such a way that was unfamiliar to her and a window was opened wider than usual. She then reported that when she looked closer, she saw someone outside that she did not recognize. She then shouted and the subject ran away from the window.
The patrol officers established a perimeter and attempted to locate the subject but were unsuccessful. Detectives from the New Castle County Division of Police Criminal Investigations Unit then assumed the investigation.
On April 6th additional evidence was discovered and 30-year-old, Keith Washington was identified as a suspect, according to police. Yesterday members of the Special Investigations Squad were able to locate and apprehend Washington at his residence and take him into custody.
Washington was taken to New Castle County Police Headquarters and charged with one count of felony Attempted Burglary 1st degree. He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2 and released on $3000 unsecured bail.
