On Thursday, at approximately 4:50 p.m., the Brandywine Hundred Fire Company, Talleyville Fire Company, Delaware State Police Aviation Unit, and the New Castle County Paramedics (NCCEMS) were dispatched to the 200 block of Lea Boulevard, in North Wilmington, for the report of a motor vehicle collision with injuries.
Arriving units found a single vehicle, which had left the roadway, and traveled approximately 40 feet down an embankment, landing in a creek, trapping the passenger inside, according to NCCEMS PIO S/Sergeant Abigail Haas.
Haas said the New Castle County Paramedics arrived on scene to find two total patients. A 69-year-old male driver of the vehicle was treated on scene by the Paramedics for possible chest and internal injuries. He was transported by Talleyville Fire Company ambulance, accompanied by the Paramedics, to the Christiana Hospital, in Stanton, in serious condition.
– The approximately 70-year-old female passenger of the vehicle required extrication with rescue tools by the responding firefighters. After approximately 20 minutes she was freed from the wreckage. The woman was treated on scene by the New Castle County Paramedics for possible internal injuries before she was transported to the Christiana Hospital by Delaware State Police Aviation in serious condition.
The incident is being investigated by the Delaware State Police.
