On June 5th, 2011, patrol officers from the New Castle County Division of Police were dispatched to the wooded area of Sellers Park off Edgemoor Road for the discovery of human bones. When the officers arrived, they observed partial remains to include a human skull.
Detectives from the New Castle County Police Criminal Investigations Unit arrived and assumed the investigation. An extensive search was conducted in the area and the remains were turned over to investigators from the Medical Examiner’s Office. A pair of blue shorts found close to the remains, were also collected by police.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner within the Division of Forensic Science reported that the partial skeletal remains are of a Caucasoid female, about 25-50 years of age. The deceased had long, dark brown hair arranged in a single long braid and small gold inlays or restorations in her front teeth. The gold inlays would have been noticeable to anyone that would have known the female.
Recently, detectives contacted renowned Forensic Artist Joe Mullins and requested his assistance with obtaining an updated image of the deceased. Investigators learned of a scientifically advanced 3D scan arm developed by Faro Technologies which would aid in the replication of the skull for the Forensic Artist’s utilization as a template.
