Newark Police Arrest Man With AK-47 And Drugs

Newark – Newark Police have arrested a Claymont man after a vehicle stop yielded two firearms, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia, according to Newark Police Spokesman Lieutenant Fred Nelson.

BlakeNelson said  the incident occurred Saturday morning, February 18, 2017, at 3:42 a.m. when a Newark Police Officer was conducting traffic enforcement in the area of S. College Avenue and Christina Parkway.

The officer observed a brown Hyundai Sonata driving without its headlights illuminated at night time and conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle.  The officer contacted the driver, 21 year old Donovan-Don J. Blake, and noticed an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle, said Nelson.

A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed a loaded .40 caliber handgun, an AK-47 style firearm with a loaded banana style clip next to it, (10) individually packaged baggies of marijuana weighing a total of 14.7 grams, a digital scale, and a package of small lock and seal baggies, according to Nelson.

Blake was arrested and transported to the Newark Police Department. He was arraigned in front of JP Court 11 and given $14,200.00 secured bail.  Seized itemsBlake is still in the custody of the Newark Police Department.

 

Blake has been charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, 2 counts,  manufactures, delivers, or possession with indent to deliver a controlled substance with an aggravating factor, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, a firearm possess, purchase, own, or control a deadly weapon, a semi auto or auto, by person prohibited who also possesses controlled substance, 2 Counts, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia marijuana related- civil violation and failure to have lights on when required.
