Two Hospitalized After Dump Truck Overturns In Newport

At approximately 5:10 a.m., New Castle County Paramedics (NCCEMS), Minquas Fire Company of Newport, and Belvedere Fire Company were dispatched to the intersection of East Justis Street and North Marshall Street for a motor vehicle collision with rollover, according to NCCEMS Assistant PIO Emily Mallon.

Mallon said upon arrival, New Castle County Paramedics found a large truck rolled on its side with two patients still inside. Both patients were able to climb out of the vehicle with help from fire department personnel. A 28-year-old male was treated for a possible back injury and injuries to his extremities. He was transported to Christiana Hospital via Minquas Fire Company ambulance, accompanied by New Castle County Paramedics, in stable condition. A 37-year-old male was treated for injuries to his extremities. He was transported to Christiana Hospital via Belvedere Fire Company ambulance, accompanied by New Castle County Paramedics, in stable condition.

Arriving responders closed the roadway due to the accident. The road reopened just before 9:00 a.m. Friday.

Newport Police Department is investigating the crash.
