Police: Heavy Set Man Robs Newark Liquor Store At Gunpoint

Newark – The Delaware State Police are investigating the robbery of a Newark area liquor store that occurred Sunday, Public Information Officer, Senior Corporal Jason Hatchell.

Hatchell said the incident occurred at approximately 6:55 p.m., Sunday, August 8, 2021, at Creekside Spirits, located at 1124 Capitol Trail, Newark, when troopers responded to an armed robbery.

The investigation determined a male suspect entered the store and confronted a male employee while displaying a handgun. The suspect demanded money from the register and the employee complied with the demands, according to Hatchell. After the first employee was unable to open a second register the suspect confronted a second employee who complied and opened the additional cash register. The suspect obtained an undisclosed amount of cash and fled out of the back of the store on foot towards a nearby apartment complex. The employees were not injured.

The suspect was described as a black male approximately 6’1”- 6’3” tall, 270-300 lbs., wearing a light-colored shirt, dark pants and shoes, and a mask.
