On Wednesday, Sept 22, at approximately 5:00 p.m., patrol officers from the New Castle County Division of Police were dispatched to the 7-11 Convenience Store on the 1900 block of Centerville Road for the report of gunshots being fired.
When the officers arrived at the scene, they learned from witnesses that a 33-year-old and a 39-year-old male were seated in a parked vehicle in front of the store. A female was seen walking over to the parked car she then speaks to the men in the car and walks inside the store.
After she walks inside a Hispanic male identified as 28-year-old Luis Levante-Mendina came out and an argument ensued involving all three males. Levante-Mendina then went to his vehicle, retrieved a handgun, and fired multiple rounds at the victims who at this point were attempting to drive away, according to police.
Levante-Mendina then fled the scene and was eventually apprehended at the intersection of Ohio Ave and Rhode Island Avenue. The officers also recovered the handgun that was used said police.
Detectives from the New Castle County Division of Police Criminal Investigations Unit arrived at the scene and assumed the investigation.
After being taken into custody, Levante-Mendina was transported to police headquarters and charged with two felony counts of Reckless Endangering 1st and one count of Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony.
He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 11 and held in lieu of $55,000 cash-only bail.
