The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office has determined two house fires that occurred on Wednesday, January 12, 2022, in Milford, DE were accidental in nature according to Delaware State Fire Marshal Chief Deputy B. Scott Bullock.
Bullock said the Carlisle Fire Company of Milford was alerted shortly before 5:00 PM on January 12, 2022, to respond to the unit block of Elizabeth Street in Milford for a reported house fire.
The Carlisle Fire Comapny arrived with heavy smoke coming from the one-and-a-half-story single-family dwelling. Assistance was requested from neighboring fire companies with the fire placed under control just after 6:00 PM.
Deputy State Fire Marshals conducted an investigation into the cause of the fire and determined the fire originated in the kitchen/dining area and was caused by improperly discarded smoking materials. The occupants of the home were not home at the time the fire was reported. Damages were estimated at $50,000 with no injuries reported.
Hours later, at 10:45, the Carlisle Fire Company of Milford responded to the 6000 block of Old Shawnee Road in Milford.
Arriving firefighters found a fire involving a recreational camper and a home.
Assistance was requested from neighboring fire companies with the blaze being brought under control just after midnight.
Investigators determined the fire originated on the exterior of the dwelling and spread to the camper. The cause of the fire was determined to be a failure with an electrical extension cord used to provide power to the camper. No injuries were reported, and damages were estimated at $125,000.
