Two In Critical Condition After Early Morning House Fire

The Delaware Office of the State Fire Marshal is investigating this morning’s fire that heavily damaged a New Castle, Delaware house. Two occupants were critically injured in the fire,  according to Assistant State Fire Marshal Michael Chionchio.

Chionchio said the blaze, reported shortly after 6:00 am, occurred in the unit block of Onaway Place in the Garfield Park neighborhood near New Castle Avenue. The Minquadale Fire Company arrived on the scene with flames shooting from the one-story dwelling and two people trapped inside. Firefighters rescued the occupants from the burning house. Both victims were taken to the Christiana Hospital. They were admitted in critical condition. Initial reports that a child was one of the injured has not been confirmed by officials.

State fire investigators are currently on the scene searching for the fire’s origin and cause. Heavy fire damage was estimated at $100,000. This fire remains under investigation.

We are expecting the State Fire Marshal’s office to update this story with additional details.
