Snapchat Leads To UD Student’s Arrest On Gun and Drug Charges

An 18-year-old University of Delaware student has been arrested after he was found to have a gun on campus according to the University of Delaware Police.

Officials said the University of Delaware Police were notified on the evening of December 16 of a Snapchat video showing a student brandishing a firearm. Officers located the student shown in the video in his campus residence hall, and he was taken into custody.

Freshman Michael T. Hearn Jr. was charged through JP Court #11 with possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, as well as a variety of drug offenses. He was issued a $21,501 cash bond and was transported to Howard Young Correctional Institute in lieu of bail.

Hearn has been separated from the University and is banned from campus. He is being referred to the Office of Student Conduct police said.

Officials added that the university policy prohibits the possession, storage, or use of any guns, firearms, ammunition or other weapons on University property unless expressly authorized by UD Police.
