Officers from the New Castle County Division of Police are currently investigating four separate fatal heroin overdoses.
These incidents took place in the communities of Bear, Newark, and Wilmington. The official cause of death for each individual is pending determination by the Delaware Division of Forensic Science according to police.
In response to these events, the New Castle County Division of Police is highlighting the services of the Hero Help Addiction Unit. This unit is a collaborative effort involving the Police, the Delaware Department of Justice, and the state Division of Substance Abuse and Mental Health. It aims to provide drug and/or alcohol addiction treatment to qualifying adults who actively seek help. The Hero Help program is designed to offer individuals a significant opportunity to overcome addiction and address the various challenges it presents.
Additionally, the program facilitates access to Narcan (naloxone), a medication used to counter the effects of opioid overdose, which is available free of charge.
