Flooding Closes Roads And Multiple Water Rescues Monday

New Castle County is currently experiencing flooding issues, leading to multiple road closures and safety concerns. The National Weather Service has issued flood warnings for the area, including southern Chester County, which will remain in effect until 8:45 a.m. on Monday, December 18, 2023.

Several specific areas are facing challenges. River Road south of Dobbinsville is currently impassable, and authorities have closed the road. Minor flooding has been reported on Delaware Street between Washington Street and Ferry Cutoff in New Castle.

Residents are strongly advised to avoid the Route 9 corridor in New Castle for their morning commute and to seek alternate routes. Officials are urging motorists to adhere to road closed signs and avoid driving through high water.

Red Clay Creek, White Clay Creek, and Brandywine Creek are all experiencing higher levels this morning due to substantial rainfall overnight.

Rescue crews from Delaware, Chester County, PA. and Cecil County, Maryland have responded to multiple water emergencies and water rescues throughout the morning on Monday.
