Overturned Tractor-Trailer Traps One, Knocks Out Power To Hundreds

Delaware State Police are investigating a rollover crash involving a tractor-trailer that occurred on Halltown Road in Hartly Monday morning.

Just after 8:15 emergency crews responded to Persons Corner, in the vicinity of the Royal Farms for reports that a vehicle that had overturned and wires were down on top of it. Upon arrival, crews confirmed that one patient was trapped. When the vehicle overturned, a man in his 20s, believed to be the truck driver, was trapped from the waist down as a result of the accident.

Rescue crews, including personnel from the Hartly Volunteer Fire Company, Kent County Paramedics, and Dover Fire Department, worked for over an hour and a half to extricate the trapped driver. The driver was freed just before 10:00 AM. He was transported to Bayhealth Hospital, Kent Campus in Dover for medical treatment.

The crash also caused a power outage in the area, with Delmarva Power initially reporting that 388 customers were without power. As of the latest update, all but 35 customers have had their power restored.
