Delaware State Police have released details regarding a fatal crash that occurred Monday morning on I-495 in Wilmington. The crash resulted in the death of 59-year-old David Taylor from Yeadon, Pennsylvania.
Police said the investigation showed that a white 2020 International HV613 truck tractor, belonging to the United States Postal Service (USPS) and driven by Taylor, was traveling in the right lane on I-495 northbound, just north of Edgemoor Road. The truck was not towing a trailer at the time.
At the same time a silver 2009 Nissan Altima, operated by 31-year-old Cameron Devine, of Middletown, was also traveling northbound on I-495 and approached the rear of the USPS truck. The Nissan collided with the left-side rear tires of the USPS vehicle, causing the truck to overturn over the guardrail and down an embankment police said. Subsequently, the Nissan struck the guardrail along the right shoulder before coming to a halt in the northbound lanes of I-495. Unfortunately, Taylor was pronounced dead at the scene.
Devine sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment. Following an investigation, it was determined that Devine was impaired by a combination of alcohol and drugs at the time of the accident police said Tuesday.
Upon being discharged from the hospital, Devine was taken into custody by troopers and transported to Troop 2 for processing. He was subsequently charged and arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2, and committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a $10,400 cash bond.
The charges filed against Devine include Vehicular Homicide 2nd Degree (Felony), Driving Under the Influence of the Combination of Alcohol and any Drug, Driving While Revoked, Operation of an Unregistered Motor Vehicle, Failure to Remain Within a Single Lane, and Failure to Have Required Insurance.
