Delaware State Police are investigating a three-vehicle crash that occurred on Wilson Road in Wilmington yesterday afternoon, resulting in one death.

Officials said on July 1, 2024, at approximately 3:50 p.m., a gray 2008 Toyota Camry was traveling eastbound on Wilson Road. For unknown reasons, the Toyota left its lane and struck a mailbox on the 1000 block of Wilson Road. The vehicle then swerved back onto the roadway, crossing the solid double yellow line and colliding head-on with a westbound black 2011 Mercedes S550. The impact caused the Mercedes to rotate counterclockwise and strike a parked and occupied tan 2002 Buick LeSabre on the westbound shoulder of Wilson Road.

The driver of the Toyota, 89-year-oldĀ Grover Brown, of Wilmington, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Mercedes, a 62-year-old man from Wilmington, Delaware, was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The occupant of the Buick, a 65-year-old woman from Wilmington, Delaware, was not injured.

Responding to the scene were Tallyville, Brandywine Hundred, and Claymont Fire Companies, along with New Castle County Paramedics. Delaware State Police Aviation was initially dispatched but later recalled. Wilson Road was closed for approximately four hours as authorities conducted their investigation and cleared the scene.
