Troopers Identify Pedestrian Struck And Killed by Hit-And-Run Driver

Delaware State Police are investigating a hit-and-run crash that claimed the life of a man early this morning.

Officials said on August 16, 2024, at approximately 1:40 a.m., an unknown vehicle was driving northbound on South Dupont Highway, just south of POW/MIA Parkway in Dover.

At the same time, a pedestrian was near or on the northbound shoulder of South Dupont Highway, south of POW/MIA Parkway. The investigation showed that the vehicle struck the pedestrian and fled the scene in an unknown direction.

The victim, 62-year-old Michael Jose of Dover,, was pronounced dead at the scene.

South Dupont Highway was closed for approximately 3 hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.
