Arrest Made In Shooting Of 56-Year-Old

Wilmington Police have arrested a man in connection to a shooting incident following an investigation.

On September 3, at approximately 7:12 p.m., members of the Uniformed Services Division responded to the 2400 block of Locust Street, in reference to a shooting incident. Upon arrival, police located a 56-year-old male gunshot victim, who was transported to the hospital in stable condition.

The case was assigned to Detective Justin Wilkers of the Criminal Investigations Division. Through the course of his investigation, Detective Wilkers identified 26-year-old Jerome Blakeney as a suspect, and obtained warrants for his arrest. On September 5, Blakeney was taken into custody without incident.

Blakeney has been charged with Assault (First Degree), Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon, Reckless Endangering (First Degree), and Endangering the Welfare of a Child.

Officials did not say why Blakeney was charged with the Endangering the Welfare of a Child.

He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $231,000 cash-only bail.
