Wilmington Police are investigating a fatal assault that occurred in the 400 block of South Jackson Street.
Officials said on September 3 at approximately 7:27 p.m., police were called to a residence in the 400 block of South Jackson Street to conduct a welfare check regarding an elderly female. Responding officers gained entry to the residence and located 89-year-old Leonor Gonzalez-Ortiz, who was deceased.
The case was assigned to Detective Justin Kane of the Criminal Investigations Division, and the investigation continued in conjunction with the Delaware Division of Forensic Sciences – which determined that she had been assaulted, resulting in her death.
