The Dover Police Department is investigating a motor vehicle collision that resulted in the death of a 78-year-old Clayton woman Saturday.
Officials said at approximately 3:40 p.m., Dover Police received a call for a serious crash involving a GMC Sierra, a Subaru Outback, and a Nissan Sentra.
Officials said the GMC Sierra was traveling Northbound on South DuPont Highway in the right lane, approaching Webb’s Lane. At the same time, the Subaru, operated by 78-year-old Pauline Parrott, was stopped in traffic on Webb’s Lane preparing to cross over South DuPont Highway going west.
The traffic signal for Westbound Webb’s lane turned green, and the Subaru began crossing South DuPont Highway. At the same time, the GMC failed to stop at the red signal on South DuPont Highway, causing the front of the GMC to strike the driver-side door of the Subaru according to police. After the vehicles collided, they slid north into the left turn lane of Southbound, South DuPont Highway, striking the Nissan.
Officers responded to the area and located Parrott and attempted to render aid. She was later pronounced dead on the scene.
The driver of the Nissan, a 71-year-old female of Dover, was transported to Bayhealth Kent Campus for treatment and later released. The driver of the GMC, a 43-year-old male from Newark, refused medical treatment.
