A structure fire resulted in injuries to multiple individuals at the West Motel on the Pulaski Highway early Saturday morning.
At 6:03 a.m., dispatchers began receiving calls that the motel was on fire and an evacuation was underway. A caller later reported that everyone was out of the building.
Upon arrival, crews reported fire showing from the structure and struck a second alarm. A search of the structure began as crews worked to contain the blaze.
Three individuals were assessed at the scene. A 66-year-old male suffered extremity burns and smoke inhalation; he was treated by New Castle County Paramedics and transported by Christiana Fire Company ambulance to Christiana Hospital in serious but stable condition. Another male, approximately 50 years old, was transported in stable condition by Wilmington Manor Fire Company. A third individual, a 53-year-old male, declined hospital transport after assessment.
The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office has launched an investigation to determine the fire’s cause. Additional details will be provided when the Fire Marshal’s Office releases their report.
