On Tuesday, October 22, 2024, at approximately 8:41 p.m., the Milford Police Department was dispatched to the unit block of N. Washington Street in Milford following a report of an altercation involving a male subject and two female subjects.
Public Information Officer Sgt. Timothy Maloney said officers were advised that the male subject, allegedly in possession of a firearm, had fled the scene. Upon arrival, officers located the individual walking through a parking lot on Park Avenue and detained him.
A subsequent search revealed the male had a firearm in his possession during the incident. Further investigation identified the male as Caleb Mumford, 22, of Houston, Delaware, who reportedly engaged in a verbal dispute with the two women. During this altercation, Mumford allegedly lifted his shirt, revealing the firearm in a threatening manner said Maloney.
Maloney added that Mumford was subsequently transported to the Milford Police Department, where he faced several charges. The charges include one count of Attempted Obstruction of Justice (Felony), one count of Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony (Felony), one count of Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon (Felony), two counts of Aggravated Menacing (Felony), one count of Possession of a Firearm While Under the Influence, and Disorderly Conduct.
After presentment at Justice of the Peace Court 7, Mumford was placed on an intoxication hold and committed to the Department of Correction. He later appeared in Justice of the Peace Court, where he received a $31,700.00 cash bond and a no-contact order with the victims. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing at a later date in the Kent County Court of Common Pleas.
