Man Facing Felony Charges In Newark Main Street Incident

University of Delaware Police have arrested a 34-year-old man and charged him with two felony offenses.

Officials said Newark Police responded to the city’s East Main Street at approximately 2:26 p.m. on Nov. 19 following a report of an assault that had occurred minutes earlier.

A man meeting the description, later identified as Khiry Karim, 34, was stopped by Newark Police and University of Delaware Police. Karim physically resisted arrest and, during an altercation, bit a UD Police officer on the wrist. Karim and the officer were transported to Christiana Hospital for treatment.

UD Police charged Karim with two felony offenses: resisting arrest and second-degree assault on a law enforcement officer.

Arraignment of Karim will be held when he is released from Christiana Hospital.
