Regional Desk: Maryland authorities are investigating a house fire that caused significant damage on Monday.
The fire at the one-and-a-half-story dwelling located in the 700 block of Shi Lane, Stevensville, Queen Anne’s County, was first reported at approximately 2:24 p.m.
According to officials, the home’s smoke alarms were activated during the incident. However, the occupant first noticed the fire on the exterior of the residence before the alarms sounded.
The Kent Island Volunteer Fire Department responded with 30 firefighters who worked for approximately 90 minutes to bring the fire under control. The fire caused an estimated $300,000 in structural damage and an additional $100,000 in content loss.
One firefighter sustained minor injuries while battling the blaze and was transported to Queen Anne’s Medical Center for treatment. The individual was released shortly after receiving care.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the fire’s cause and pinpoint the exact area where it began.
