Wilmington Police have announced the arrest of 26-year-old Kyle Batson of Bear, Delaware, in connection with the fatal assault of a Wilmington woman in September. The arrest follows an intensive investigation into the death of 44-year-old Myeshia Triplett, who was found deceased on September 12.
On the morning of September 12, officers were dispatched to the 700 block of Catawba Street to investigate a reported death. Upon arrival, police discovered Triplett, who was later determined to be the victim of a fatal assault police said Thursday. The case was assigned to Detective Justin Kane of the Criminal Investigations Division, who worked closely with the Delaware Division of Forensic Sciences to uncover the circumstances surrounding the incident.
By September 16, authorities confirmed the assault as the cause of Triplett’s death. During the investigation, Detective Kane identified Batson as the primary suspect. Batson had been taken into custody in Maryland on September 12 on unrelated charges, shortly after the assault occurred in Wilmington.
On December 4, Batson was extradited from Maryland to Delaware to face multiple charges related to the crime. He has been charged with first-degree murder, first-degree rape, second-degree rape, strangulation, and abuse of a corpse.
Following his extradition, Batson was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 20. He was subsequently committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in Wilmington. Bail was set at $1,900,500 cash-only, and he remains in custody pending further legal proceedings.
