Officers from the New Castle County Division of Police have charged 36-year-old Khaled Swailam and 29-year-old Ahmed Shalaby with falsely reporting an incident to law enforcement.
Officials said on Thursday, December 12, 2022, at 3:59 a.m., patrol officers were dispatched to the 900 block of Marrows Road in Newark for a reported carjacking. Patrol officers soon arrived and began an investigation into the incident.
Khaled stated that while driving on Marrows Road, another vehicle cut him off, causing him to stop abruptly. He claimed that a known suspect then exited the other vehicle, pointed a weapon at him, forced him out of his Cadillac, and drove away with it according to police.
Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Unit were notified, responded to the scene, and conducted additional interviews. During these interviews, detectives identified inconsistencies in Khaled and Ahmed’s statements police said. Upon further investigation, officers determined that the carjacking was fabricated to settle a personal dispute with the alleged “suspect. police said” The missing Cadillac was later found at an address linked to Ahmed and the “suspect” in New Castle.
Khaled Swailam and Ahmed Shalaby were both arrested and charged with one felony count of providing a false statement to law enforcement, one felony count of conspiracy second degree. and one misdemeanor count of falsely reporting an alleged incident to a law officer.
Khaled Swailam (left) was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 02 and released on $3,000.00 unsecured bail.
Ahmed Shalaby (right) was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 11 and released on his own recognizance.
