The National Weather Service (NWS) in Mount Holly, New Jersey, has issued an advisory urging residents of eastern and southeastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and northern Delmarva to prepare for light snowfall that could impact the Thursday evening commute.
The snowfall is expected to begin as early as noon on Thursday and taper off before midnight. Forecast models indicate a dusting of snow across most areas, with amounts generally less than 1 inch. However, some parts of eastern Pennsylvania near and north of I-78 could see slightly higher totals of 1-2 inches.
While the snowfall is anticipated to be light, untreated paved surfaces could become slippery, potentially creating hazardous conditions during the evening commute. Drivers are advised to exercise caution, especially on secondary roads, bridges, and overpasses that are more susceptible to freezing.
The NWS said their confidence in the occurrence of light snowfall within the affected areas as moderate to high (60-70%). However, there is lower confidence (40-50%) regarding the exact snowfall amounts and the precise locations that may see accumulations.
Residents are encouraged to:
- Allow extra travel time during the evening commute.
- Stay updated with the latest forecasts and advisories.
- Be cautious when walking or driving on untreated surfaces.
While the impacts are expected to be limited, preparing for the possibility of slippery conditions can help ensure safety during this weather event.
