Delaware State Police have arrested a Georgetown man on multiple charges, including vehicular assault and driving under the influence, following a head-on collision in Greenwood on Saturday night.
Authorities say the crash occurred on March 1, 2025, at approximately 9:42 p.m. on Sussex Highway, just north of Adams Road. Troopers responding to the scene identified 25-year-old Juventino Hernandez Montoya as the driver of a Nissan Altima involved in the collision. While speaking with him, officers detected the odor of alcohol and observed signs of impairment police said.
An investigation determined that a 56-year-old woman from Salisbury, Maryland, was driving a Kia Sorento southbound on Sussex Highway when Hernandez Montoya, traveling north in the southbound lanes, struck her vehicle head-on.
Five occupants of the Kia sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Two passengers in Hernandez Montoya’s vehicle were also injured. One was taken to a local hospital, while the other declined medical treatment at the scene.
Hernandez Montoya was taken into custody and transported to Troop 5, where field sobriety tests confirmed impairment. He was charged with first-degree vehicular assault, six counts of second-degree vehicular assault, driving under the influence of alcohol, driving without a valid license, and other traffic-related offenses.
After being arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 3, Hernandez Montoya was released on his own recognizance. The investigation remains ongoing.
