NEWARK, Del. — A residential fire in Newark’s Brookside Park neighborhood resulted in injuries to three individuals late Sunday night. Firefighters from Aetna, Hose, Hook, and Ladder along with mutual aid companies were dispatched to the unit block of Chaucer Drive at approximately 10:30 p.m. for a reported structure fire. Upon arrival, firefighters confirmed an active blaze and located multiple injured occupants.
NCCEMS Public Information Officer Leslie Antonelli-Hobbs stated that crews from Aetna Hose Hook and Ladder Company, along with surrounding mutual aid fire companies, worked to bring the fire under control. Emergency medical personnel evaluated the injured on scene before transporting them to Christiana Hospital in Stanton for further treatment.
An approximately 86-year-old female suffered smoke inhalation and facial burns and was transported in serious condition. A 68-year-old female was also taken to the hospital in serious condition due to smoke inhalation. A 65-year-old male, who sustained less severe injuries, was transported by University of Delaware EMS in stable condition.
The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office is conducting an investigation into the cause of the fire.
Fire and EMS units responding to the incident included New Castle County Paramedics, Christiana Fire Company, Aetna Hose Hook and Ladder Company, Cranston Heights Fire Company, University of Delaware EMS, Singerly Fire Company, and Mill Creek Fire Company.
