Fire At Newark-Area Pub Under Investigation

The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating a building fire that occurred on Sunday in Newark.

Chief Deputy Robert Fox of the Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office said the Aetna Hose, Hook & Ladder Company of Newark was dispatched to a fire at McGlynns Pub, located in the 100 block of Peoples Plaza, shortly after 1:00 AM. The business was open and operating at the time of the fire.

Upon arrival, firefighters found a small fire inside the building that had been contained by the sprinkler system and was subsequently extinguished by responding personnel.

Deputy fire marshals were called to the scene to determine the origin and cause of the fire. Fox said that investigators identified the fire’s origin in a bathroom trash can. The cause remains under investigation.

No injuries were reported, and damage is estimated at approximately $1,000.
