Deadly Crash Shuts Down Delaware Road for Hours Sunday

File

An 80-year-old Maryland man died Sunday afternoon following a high-speed crash in Felton, according to the Delaware State Police.

Police said the crash occurred around 4:50 p.m. on May 10, 2026, on Sandtown Road south of Willow Grove Road. Investigators said a Kia Sorento was traveling northbound at an apparent high rate of speed when it passed two vehicles in a no-passing zone before failing to negotiate a curve.

The Sorento then left the west side of the roadway and crashed into two unoccupied commercial trucks and trailers parked in a nearby lot.

The driver, identified only as an 80-year-old man from Goldsboro, Maryland, was not properly restrained at the time of the crash. He was transported to an area hospital, where he later died from his injuries. His identity is being withheld pending notification of family members.

Sandtown Road remained closed for approximately three hours while the crash scene was investigated and cleared. The investigation remains ongoing.
