Maryland Woman Killed In Rehoboth Beach

The Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal crash involving an electric bicycle that occurred late Saturday morning in Rehoboth Beach.

According to investigators, the crash happened on June 20, 2026, at approximately 11:30 a.m. on southbound Coastal Highway north of Savages Ditch Road. A GMC Sierra 2500 was traveling in the left southbound lane while a 66-year-old woman from Potomac, Maryland, was riding an e-bike southbound in the designated bicycle lane.

The preliminary investigation determined that, for reasons still under investigation, the e-bike rider left the bicycle lane and entered the southbound travel lanes directly into the path of the GMC. The truck subsequently struck the e-bike and the rider.

The woman was transported to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Her identity is being withheld pending notification of family members.

The driver of the GMC, a 64-year-old man from Perryville, Maryland, was not injured in the collision.

Southbound Coastal Highway was closed for approximately two hours while Delaware State Police conducted the investigation and cleared the scene. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
