The Wilmington Police Department has released additional information in the investigation into the fatal officer-involved shooting of Kadir Skinner.
Police said the information is being released in the interest of transparency while reminding the public that the investigation remains active. The case continues to be investigated by the Wilmington Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division and Office of Professional Standards, along with the Delaware Department of Justice.
According to the department, an examination conducted by the Delaware Division of Forensic Sciences determined that Skinner sustained a single gunshot wound to the upper left buttocks area. Police also stated that after officers realized Skinner had been injured, an officer at the scene transported him to the hospital in an effort to obtain medical care.
Investigators said officers recovered a loaded .45-caliber handgun equipped with an extended magazine, along with ballistic evidence, following the shooting. The firearm and other evidence were turned over to forensic technicians for analysis and preservation as part of the Wilmington Police Department’s investigation and the independent review being conducted by the Delaware Department of Justice.
Police also said that, following a June 25 meeting between Skinner’s family and Chief Wilfredo Campos, the department offered family members an opportunity to view body-worn camera footage from the incident. Officials said that offer remains available and may be accepted whenever the family is ready.
The Wilmington Police Department said the investigation remains ongoing and that additional information will be released when appropriate. Officials asked the public to remain patient while investigators complete what they described as a thorough review of the incident.
