Delaware State Police arrested a 41-year-old Lewes man on felony charges following a fight and shooting Wednesday afternoon that left another man with a gunshot wound to the foot.
Troopers responded to a residence in the 20000 block of Hopkins Road at approximately 4:40 p.m. on August 12, 2026, after receiving a report of shots fired following a fight between two men. Troopers spoke with several people at the scene, including 41-year-old Kenneth Drummond.
A short time later, troopers were called to a residence on Kendale Road for a report of a 47-year-old Lewes man who had been shot in the foot. Investigators determined the two incidents were connected.
According to Delaware State Police, the 47-year-old man had been on Drummond’s property despite a court-issued no-contact order, and the two became involved in a physical altercation. Police said that after the initial fight, Drummond learned the man remained on the property near the end of the driveway.
Investigators allege Drummond drove to that area and fired multiple rounds from a handgun in the man’s direction, striking him in the foot.
Drummond was taken into custody and transported to Delaware State Police Troop 7. He was charged with first-degree assault involving intentional serious injury with a dangerous weapon or instrument and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
Following his arraignment by the Justice of the Peace Court, Drummond was released on $40,000 unsecured bond.
The 47-year-old man, who Troopers did not identify, was transported to an area hospital for treatment. After his release from the hospital, he was charged with breach of release for allegedly violating the no-contact order and was released on an unsecured bond.
